By 2020 China is aiming for 30 percent aviation biofuels

China Petroleum & Chemical, also known as Sinopec, has applied to China's aviation regulator with the aim to produce aviation biofuel commercially. China is reportedly expected to use 12 million metric tons of aviation biofuel a year by 2020. This will equal about 30 percent of projected total jet fuel consumption, which in itself is predicted to double to 40 million metric tons a year. Lufthansa biosynthetic fuel trail has been successful

Lufthansa has completed its six month trail with biosynthetic fuel, during the course of this trail more than 1000 biofuels flights were successfully flown between Hamburg and Frankfurt. The trail has ended due to not being able to find a suitable reliable supplier for its aviation biofuels.

"As a next step, we will focus on the suitability, availability, sustainability and certification of raw materials. But first we must tap into this market. However, Lufthansa will only continue the practical trial if we are able to secure the volume of sustainable, certified raw materials required in order to maintain routine operations," project manager of the airline, Joachim Buse, says. Mexico bio jet plant for 2012

Chiapas state government of Mexico are proposing to build a bio jet fuel production plant in January 2012. This would help in perfecting the blending targets for aviation fuel for Mexican airlines to achieve. The government want one percent of renewable jet fuel to be blended with traditional aviation fuel by 2015. The plant will cost between US$40 million and US$80 million (€30-59 million) to construct. China prepares for demonstration biofuel flight

China is preparing to conduct a demonstration biofuel flight, using an Air China Boeing 747-700 is set for the end of November. A blend of conventional and hydrotreated renewable jet fuel, the flight is to be conducted as a US-China energy cooperation program which was set up in 2009. Read more ...
