Feedstock Innovation award won by DuPont

The 2012 Sustainable biofuel award in the sustainable feedstock innovation category for its stover harvest collection project was won by DuPont. This was a scale up project that has significantly advances the cellulosic ethanol industry toward commercialisation and advances DuPont’s efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

VTT working to develop biomass delivery chains in Vietnam

In Vietnam VTT is working to develop Vietnam's solid biomass fuel resources on an industrial level as part of the Energy and Environment Partnership Program run by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, is to create multi-fuel delivery chains for power plants and industrial boilers.

The program will make sure biomass fuels are available all year round through the use of storage systems to make seasonal raw materials available continuously. It is thought that through this program, biomass will be able to be more efficiently and more often delivered, which should allow for biomass fuel to be more readily available at Vietnamese power plants. 12 million gallons of biofuel annually

POET the worlds largest ethanol producer, with its patent pending technology is expanding to a total of six plants using corn oil as feedstock, and aiming to produce 12 million gallons of biodiesel per year by the end of 2011. POET has been selling VoilĂ ™ corn oil into biodiesel and feed markets since January, and new capacity is now coming online as the company continues to roll out the technology to more plants. "This is pretty exciting. We're producing energy as a by-product of energy," POET founder and CEO Jeff Broin said. "It's incredible to see how many different things we can get from a kernel of corn." Zambia Refinery ready to mix biofuels

Indeni Petroleum Refinery in Zambia has the capacity to mix biofuels and reduce on the amount of imported crude oil the Energy, Land and Water Development acting permanent secretary Oscar Kalumiana has said. “The inclusion of biofuels in our energy portfolio is envisaged to translate into the reduction on the amount and cost of importing petroleum feedstock thereby saving the country’s hard earned foreign exchange,” he said. Speaking during the National Biofuel stakeholders consultative meeting in Lusaka, Mr Kalumiana said "the Government was constructing depots throughout the country to enable biofuels producers to transport feedstock to nearest reserves". Converting grass to energy being promoted by North American companies

Grass as opposed to wood for converting to energy, many North American companies are promoting this technology with a multitude of economical and environmental reasons the question is why has this not become more prominent in the biomass industry. Innovative feedstock and boiler companies have taken advantage of agricultural resources. Feedstock companies are harvesting various grasses, including Giant King Grass and switchgrass, to manufacture products such as pellets, briquettes and logs. Read more ...
